About Naomi
During my PhD, I spent my days behind a self-built microscope and writing computational models of neurons. I loved the problem solving, but felt a growing desire to work on a much bigger puzzle with more direct impact: climate change. Starting work at Kalavasta made that possible.
My expertise covers two areas. The first is industrial decarbonisation: I've modelled transition pathways for many industrial sectors, such as refineries, chemicals and steel, and have done policy evaluations across the sector. The second is financing the energy transition, where I found that the technical and financial worlds are trying to solve the same problem but barely speak the same language. I've worked on bridging that gap with a data-driven approach that both sides find credible and useful.
What I enjoy most about my work is finding the balance between complexity and usability: getting to the core of a problem without losing sight of the big picture. I believe models are a means, not an end: they can be essential to turn a complex puzzle into a decision you can defend.
