John Kerkhoven Dr. Ir.

About John
I am convinced that accelerating the energy and agri-food transitions requires a shared, quantitative understanding of the system. When government, industry, NGOs, grid operators and the financial sector work from the same transparent models and public data, the debate shifts from assumptions to decisions.
That conviction led me to co-found Quintel Intelligence (where I initiated the Energy Transition Model) and later Kalavasta.
What drives me is that climate neutrality now converges with urgent new challenges: European self-sufficiency, grid congestion, a lack of dispatchable flexibility, geopolitical vulnerability and an insufficient appetite to invest into our future. These require integrated answers — exactly where quantitative system thinking, strategy and vision development make the difference. It also shapes how I live: a nineteen-year bio-plant-based diet, an electrified airtight house, an EV, an e-bike, and I am a passionate birder.
I bring over forty years of experience, of which thirty as a (managing) partner in strategy consulting and transition modeling, working for the national government, grid operators, industry, NGOs and banks.
